Welcome to the new website. As many of you know one of my goals was to have a chatroom for appraisers on the new site. This means we can exchange information about classes, law changes, clients, and even neighborhoods. Dive in, and don't be affraid to open up. There is strength in numbers. Remember to keep it civil and clean. Dennis J. Black, IFAS

I just received your post card. Passed it to my wife and said, " this is the most exciting piece of mail I have ever received". The 30 hours mandated is a boring ritual; too much information to absorb in 2.5 days. Your projected class at Suncoast Board is timely and the type of information I need. I will attend as much of these classes as available.

I have been certified for about 5 years and planing to go general. My question is about the 3000 hrs experience required. Do my residential experience count at all? Thanks

Doug, Yes your residential hours count, but you must have a minimum of 1500 non-residential hours.

Dennis...don't get too high speed and low drag, you may figure out that hanging with us Appraiser's is kinda like slumming and decide to become a Mortage Broker...they're smart...aren't they?

Now that I have more gray hair than energy, I would like to slow down 20 years of fee appraising that has been rewarding and afforded me a reasonably comfortable life style. Prior to that it was staff appraisal with a bank in Atlanta. Previously, I was on the VA panel and asked to be removed after going into one too many veteran's homes where there small children, and I was there to assist in taking their homes. Have done FHA since '94 and consistently work for 2-3 major southern regional banks that are present in the Panhandle. My question: what is the Panhandle market like these days for appraisers. I am no longer interested in 60-70 hour weeks but would like to at least stay active at some level. Is this an impossible time to attempt a transition to the Panhandle? Are appraisers leaving the industry in NW Florida, or struggling badly? Finally, how difficult is the re-certification process as a newcomer to Florida? I have Georgia and TN certifications but I understand there is no reciprocity. Thanks to all for the unvarnished truth. Ron Patton, Chattanooga, TN Ronpattonappraisals@comcast.net
